This work aims at developing a demand-based methodology for designing the bus network of a small or medium town. The proposed modelling tool adopts a multi-agent objective function which evaluates performance in the context of different stakeholders: the surplus of travellers (car and bus users); the bus service provider’s revenues and operation costs. This approach was applied to an existing bus network, serving city of Trapani, which is a medium town in the south of Italy (Sicily), with 100000 inhabitants. Abstract There are many high-speed rail projects in Europe at different stages of development. They are supported on environmental grounds and as a means of reducing congestion on other modes, including aviation. High-speed rail, however requires major investment costs, takes a long time to come online, and involves considerable financial risks. Entry in a Psychically Distant Market: Finnish Small and Medium-sized Software Firms in Japan

This paper investigates the market entry and entry mode choice of eight small and medium-sized Finnish software firms in the Japanese market. The findings in this study reveal that, despite of the psychic distance between Finland and Japan, most of the firms entered Japan at a very early stage of their internationalization process by using direct entry modes. This was mainly due to the market size, sophisticated industry structure, and requirements for intensive cooperation with the customers during the sales process. The purpose of this thesis was to test the applicability of binding communication in the case of car use reduction. The first two studies (1 & 2) bring out the relationship between an individual and his mobility. Our results lead us to consider a system of double bind between the challenges of sustainable development and daily obligations. The individual recognizes the negative impact of car use on the environment but justifies his behavior by an important need for flexibility.
